While at the Allans, Edgar was educated by private tutors and obtained an excellent command of French and Latin.Edgar's lifelong struggle with poverty began at an early age. After leaving the Allans, Edgar went to attend boarding school for just one year and after leaving school, he moved back in with the Allans. Edgar soon found that the Allans retreated from their former support and so, left their home in 1826 to find work of his own.The remainder of Poe's life was full of literary struggles, several unsuccessful attempts to publish his works, and numerous unfulfilled dreams. His works are often cited as bleak, and his often temporal solutions to life's problems often fail further amplifying this.In 1835, Edgar married Virginia Clemm on his twenty-fifth birthday. Virginia was only thirteen, and the marriage was ill-advised, but state laws at the time allowed such arrangements. His relationship with Virginia was extremely tight, and they developed a deep and passionate bond. Virginia sadly passed away in 1842 due to tuberculosis, and her death was a devastating blow to Poe.Though his literary works and life were filled with tragedy, Edgar Allan Poe left a legacy in the shape of writings and poetry that is still appreciated and studied today.
